This is a shell for a drove with an inbuilt float. The original design, designed by my customer, used a small piece of foam held in place by this shell but I was given the task of using 3D printing to the advantage of the final function of the part and 3D printing is indeed the only process that could have done it this way; I’ve made an enclosed, hollow space inside the printed shell which traps the air in (and keeps the water out) which creates the float, doing away with a piece of foam.

Not only is it printed a very tough PLA+, the bright orange colour makes it easily visible in the water!

This is designed on the idea that the customer will use the drone out at sea and the drone will “catch” the wave with him so to speak, taking some awesome footage at the same time. This drone shell give it the advantge of being able float easily if the tube so happens to swallow the drone – not that know much about surfing so don’t mind me trying to sound like I do.
